     Some search engines take into account domain names when producing         

     search results, therefore it is a good idea to try to have a domain name which 

     both reflects the content of your site, and contains popular search terms 

     describing the subject matter. 

It must be Short, Easy to remember, and easy to spell.

If being found in the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc.) is important to you, I highly recommend you to register a domain name that contains top high paying keywords instead of your name or your company name or any favorite name.

Always keep in mind users always surf by phrase or subject, not by correct keywords or exact domain name. Select exact keyword or keywords that perfect matches with your content. Then only you can attract target audience.

Sure, you can still list your company name on your web pages, but I believe it's more important to make sure the domain name includes your important "Search Engine Friendly" keywords if you want to receive traffic from all over.

If you are just creating a website for a local business, getting traffic from all over the web may not be as important to you.  This is because your customers will be local and you may want to grow your brand name in a specific area.

If this is the case, it may make more sense to register your company name and create brand awareness locally instead of trying to capitalize on search engine presence.

For example, let's say you have a company is dealing with Real Estate in Chennai. Then you can choose your domain name as chennairealestate.com or chennaiproperties.com 

Since you are only servicing local clients, you may not care if someone in other parts of the world can find your site in Google, Yahoo or Msn. since they are not likely to become one of your buyers. 

In this case, it's not as important to register a name filled with "search optimized" keywords.  You may decide to just reserve the company name, Chennairealestate.com or chennaiproperties.com 

Note : It is not that important to select domain name with keywords, your content only play a crucial role in indexing your website. But some search engines give more importance to domain name also.

The content on your web pages and your site's popularity (External links from other top sites) is very important too. However, it certainly doesn't hurt to make sure your domain name is optimized for best results.

More Suggestions on choosing the best domain name

Protect your Domain Name by registering multiple extensions (.net, .org, etc.)  This deters people from copying your name. For example, if you own www.onlinejobs.com , then you can register www.onlinejobs.in, .org, .net and so on. 

So that You don't have to build a site on all the domains, but you can reserve the others to keep people (copycats) from registering them. Because here on Internet there are lot of copycats who copy your content as well as your domain name with the similar name.
